Whitecap Venture Partners Congratulates Steven Lau, Recipient of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 for 2019
Annual recognition honours the achievements of outstanding Canadians under 40
TORONTO – June 26, 2019 – Whitecap Venture Partners today announced that Steven Lau, Partner, has been named a Recipient of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40® for 2019. See the official National Post article here.
Founded in 1995 by Caldwell, Canada’s Top 40 Under 40® is an annual recognition of the exceptional achievements of 40 outstanding Canadians under the age of 40. Lau was selected from over 850 nominees by an independent Advisory Board, comprising 25 business leaders from across Canada. Honourees were chosen based on four key criteria: Vision & Innovation; Leadership; Impact & Influence; and, Social Responsibility.
Since its inception in 1995, Canada’s Top 40 Under 40® has recognized more than 720 outstanding Canadians and is the country’s most prominent award for young business leaders. Often seen as an indicator of future career potential, many of today’s top Canadian business leaders were once recipients of the Top 40 honour.
Lau is the newest Partner to join Whitecap Venture Partners, a leading venture capital firm focused on early stage technology investing. Previously, Lau was co-CEO of FieldEdge, a service management software provider for the home contractor market that he acquired in 2015. In three years, Steve scaled FieldEdge from 25 to 200 employees, transformed the business from server-based to cloud-based, and sold the company to Advent International for more than 5x the acquisition price. Early in his career, Steve spent several years with Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) where he helped complete $11 billion in private equity transactions. He also worked in investment banking at TD Securities.
In 2018, Lau was recognized for his business leadership as a recipient of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year® award. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Toronto where he currently contributes his time and expertise as a lecturer in the school’s management program. He is also a graduate of the Wharton Business School’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) program.
“We are proud to have Steve on our team and congratulate him for being recognized with this prestigious honour,” said Carey Diamond, Managing Partner at Whitecap Venture Partners. “We are fortunate to see his talent and leadership in action every day as he supports the growth of our innovative portfolio companies.”
